Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Hey, I came across a couple of sites whilst looking for images that I couldn't find elsewhere:
https://free-images.com/
http://clipart-library.com/public-domai … mages.html
http://www.i2clipart.com
some interesting sites mentioned on this page also, bit never had a chance to check them all out:
https://www.justinmind.com/blog/17-plac … r-designs/

No response needed, thanks for this awesome site, and the great work that you do.

Hello everyone!

What about openclipart.org?
They used to be great -currently down.
There is a user here named openclipart who posted half of the mentioned site's material -probably it's an automated script mirroring the site.

Do you think you could build the gallery to take in openclipart's "collections" data as well?

Hi, we can make functionality. If there is somewhere backup of Ocal collections we can restore it and implement it on site.

Some are available via the Wayback Machine. The latest before it went into maintenance mode is https://web.archive.org/web/20190417091 … ipart.org/
Some of my seems to be available at https://web.archive.org/web/20190308010 … il/liftarn

The 2.0 package (from 2010) can be downloaded from https://web.archive.org/web/20140502215 … ollections

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Good find Liftarn, I've checking wayback myself but always found it lead to mostly dead links, this backup seems to be a bit more functional.

As a side note for the developers: could this be used to scrap the tags, comments, descriptions for the images you have in your collection that do not currently have tags, I think since this backup should mirror the folder structure, then it might be possible with a script, to lift the tags directly from the webpage. Although I have noticed some of the pages still do lead to nowhere, as it depends on whether the page was cloned or linked correctly, but It might be worth your consideration.

No response necessary.

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Hi
Rob you are right, WBM is useless for recovering detailed and structured data because it doesn't go deep.
Will look in archive and try to recover useful data.

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Hi might as well answer this one whilst I am logged in, on behalf of the site Devs, as I know the answer to at least a couple

Clker is a great suggestion, I see a lot of the images have been sourced from OCAL but I am sure there is other images that could in time be added to the freesvg collection as the site clearly states images are public domain.

freesvg is developed by publicdomainvector devs which is why the site in it's current form bares similarities, they also operate a number of other sites, which they can probably advise on, to avoid further duplication.

Pixabay, sadly although the vectors found on their site are free for any purpose, from what I understand it, only the author can post SVG / images to another site like freesvg, users are not permitted to do so I am afraid. https://pixabay.com/service/license/ and check under restrictions it says don't redistribute to other stock image providers, or words to that effect. It's not very fair, as they features some SVG that first appeared on OCAL, so it's a bit of a double standard, but it's their site, so they can dictate the terms.

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Not free but low cost, currently: 2.98gbp plus shipping to US I think, free to UK.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brothers-Sca … 0677.m4598

I am astonished people are actually paying for these considering they are CC0 apparently.

I've cross references a couple of the images in the screen shot and can't see any of these images in your archive. Pay close attn to item description, seller appears to have included their own images which may be copywrited, to prevent reselling, so these probably need to be removed. Would also suggest getting written declaration that images on the the disk are CC0 prior to publishing.

For the price, it's a quick boost of images to your collection.

no response needed.

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Looks like a new opensource site is in the works by coderspress, link to the github archive is here, you might want to consider checking the contents of their archive to see if there are any images that can be added to your collection:

https://github.com/CodersPress/freesvgc … master/svg
freesvgclipart.com

Looks like it's a backup of OCAL.

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

opengameart.org has a lot of visual assets for video game creators.

Not everything is CC0, but the search function lets users sort by a wide variety of free culture licenses.

Re: Welcome to CC0 public domain resources forum

Since OCAL is back on the scene and accepting contributions maybe it would be possible to create a script to periodically scrape some of the newer images contributed by users and then add to this collection it would mean retagging at some point but I think we now have this mastered to a fine art. It shouldn't be too hard as the newer images are being displayed sequentially. And will save the original author from having to post at two places, also should OCAL go down again then at least there will be another source available.
